Training your mastiff to be a guard dog is ill-advised. This is because their personality is not easily handled if they start learning to be guard dogs. Their size should be enough to frighten any possible intruders and they will be protective if needed.
Mastiff Training for Obedience
As mentioned earlier training your Mastiff should start young and this also goes with obedience training. You can begin training them at about 10-14 weeks when the puppy has been housebroken. Also remember never to get violent or be aggressive towards a Mastiff because as they get older the threat of such a large dog as it grows older.
Because almost all mastiffs are calm and relaxed dogs they likely won't be doing lots of tricks. And the most important thing you can train them is to sit and stay and to walk on a leash. It is also recommended to train them not to go after things since it can be hard to keep a dog with its size in control.
While training your Mastiff remember to have lots of patience on your part. And always remember to keep your Mastiff socialized with a huge family, neighbors or a nearby dog park.
